A tale of two big clubs

Well now that is over thanks United and Chelsea for keeping us up for a game that seemed that both clubs were there just to fulfil their tv obligations and show up and not provide us with any form of competition at all. My heart goes out to the Chelsea supporters who had to take a 3Hr train ride to Manchester and then another 3Hr journey back to London.

So let’s break it down with the starting line-up of both teams

Manchester starting 11 –  David de Gea, Phil Jones, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Antonio Valencia, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Robin van Persie

Big surprise the inclusion of Wayne Rooney especially the news surrounding his transfer debacle personally sounds like a scared boy throwing tantrums if you ask me doubt he will leave the club. But I think the inclusion of Carrick and Cleverly over Kagawa always seems to surprise me especially a player of his quality just sitting on the bench his the type of player that is known as a game changer. Jurgen Klopp has stated that his ‘’heart breaks’’ when he sees Shinji Kagawa playing a bit part role at Manchester United…..Mine to!

Chelsea’s starting 11 – Petr Cech, Bransislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Ramires, Frank Lampard, Kevin de Bruyne, Oscar, Eden Hazard, Andre Schurrle
The lineup clearly states Maurinho’s intention draw or score on a break and park all the Putco busses behind for the rest of the game. Note no Juan Mata, Torres or even Lukaku so no attacking ability in the team

However the commentators still felt that this would be an iconic match between the ‘’Great One’’ and as United supporters have come to call Moyes the ‘’Chosen One’’ picture the matrix, has a same kind of ring like a Hollywood Summer Blockbuster unfortunately this would turn out to be a Hollywood Box Office Bomb think Waterworld and the Postman by Kevin Costner.

So lights camera and action and what did we get just lights and camera but no action, except for Rooney playing the long lost anti-hero who somehow found his inspiration with some great movement and passes it seemed as if the ball could not be taken off from him and against all odds the hero seemed to be redeemed (cue the heroic background music and background explosion) he seemed to be a player possessed I think by a Red Devil, sorry just had to.

It’s a pity that inspiration could not filter itself to the rest of the team Rooney, Carrick who played a holding role at least completed 87% of his passes but one could be confident in asking if Cleverly was in the game Manchester needed a game changer and that should’ve been Shinji Kagawa and not the safe sub who was brought in Mr Ryan Giggs clearly Moyes went for the safe play in his first home game in the Theatre of Dreams I think he didn’t put all his chips all in and go big still has big shoes to fill from Sir Alex Ferguson. There was one moment of spark from RVP which was blocked well by John Obi Mikel but either than that you really cannot mention RVP.

Looking at Chelsea I think their supporters have every right to request their money back its not easy sitting in a train for 3 hours all hyped up than have to take the journey back home with a train of disappointed supporters who really could’ve watched this game on TV or even better rather catch the highlights on CNN or BBC Sport. No attack typical Maurinho style parking the bus from the get go or maybe thinking about the game against Bayern in the week and rest some player still makes no sense especially with the quality in his bench and with the game changer being Juan Mata who practically last season was their key player last season kept on the bench for this pivotal encounter left to warm up and watch the game. Lampard done okay to keep the midfield and yes there is question for a handball any replay can show you it was not a handball, however Maurinho trusting in his old guard just lays more questions. Why not go for the win but rather the one point with a bench who holds the attacking quality he has he could’ve taken the 3 points but opted for the safe play. And what does the safe play from both teams produce well 0-0, 21 shots on goal from both teams with only 7 being on target bring out the paint on the wall and lets watch it dry.

So now that round 1 is over and both managers seemingly pleased at their performance everyone else thinking otherwise its on to the next game Moyes going to Anfield and Maurinho having to deal with his old nemesis that being Gaudiola on Friday 30 August 2013 in the European Super Cup against Bayen Munich. Maurinho in his post commentary still hinting and saying he wants Rooney don’t blame him and Moyes even trying to be secretive and with his silence stating quite clearly for the entire world that he wants to purchase Gareth Bale. So when these giants face each other will this Blockbuster be rebooted or will it just be another flop we will await and see.
