Barcelona - Spaniard Jorge Navarro thrilled his home fans with a debut success in the Moto3 Grand Prix of Catalunya on Sunday.
The Honda rider's win at his 33rd attempt over South Africa's Brad Binder and Italian Enea Bastianini boosted his world championship prospects.
After this seventh leg of the season the 20-year-old from Valencia moves on to 103 points, 44 points adrift of standings leader Binder.
There was a sombre shadow hanging over the Montmelo circuit, the grand prix going ahead in the wake of Luis Salom's death on Friday.
"I'm feeling emotional," said Navarro.
"This win is for Luis."
The SAG team's 24-year-old Spanish rider Salom suffered fatal injuries when crashing at Turn 12 on the challenging circuit near Barcelona in Friday's second free practice session.
