Tokyo - Next weekend's Japanese MotoGP could be under threat following the volcanic eruption in Iceland, which continues to severely disrupt international air traffic.
The Twin Ring Motegi, the venue for the race, said MotoGP organisers were considering their options in light of the air traffic problem, which makes it difficult to move team personnel and equipment to Japan from Europe.
"We are scheduled to make some formal announcement at around noon tomorrow (Monday)," Twin Ring Motegi public relations official Daisuke Naoi told AFP by telephone.
"We don't know what we will do yet," he said when asked if organisers were considering rescheduling what would have been the season's second round.
Media reports in Spain said the Japanese event had been postponed until October when the races in Malaysia and Australia are scheduled.
Most of Europe remains a virtual no-fly zone, with about 30 countries closing or restricting airspace amid safety fears over the cloud of ash coming from the volcano.
