Vettel scoops European award

Berlin - Journalists from 26 news agencies have chosen three-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel as the European Sportsperson of the Year.

The Red Bull driver heads the poll released on Wednesday with 137 points - seven more than Bradley Wiggins, who earlier this year became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France.

Third place with 126 points went to two-time Olympic champion Mohamed Farah, who won the 5 000m and 10 000m titles at the London Olympics.

The 55th poll was organised by the Polish newsagency PAP.
