Brno - Defending world champion Casey Stoner will miss Sunday's Czech MotoGP due to an ankle injury sustained during qualifying for the Indianapolis Grand Prix.
Stoner suffered multiple chip fractures and four torn ligaments in his right ankle following a hard crash during Saturday's qualifying round. Despite the injury, he was cleared for the race and finished fourth.
A statement on the official MotoGP website said on Thursday the 26-year-old driver arrived in Brno but would leave later for Australia to undergo surgery.
Stoner, a two-time world champion, is currently third in the overall MotoGP standings with 186 points, 39 behind leading Jorge Lorenzo.
