Rossi feels Lorenzo on his tail

VALENTINO Rossi knows that he can’t afford any slip ups if he is to get the better of team-mate Jorge Lorenzo at this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.

The Italian got his 2015 campaign off to a flying start, winning the opening two races of the season, but has since had to watch on as Lorenzo claimed back-to-back victories at the last two events in Spain and France.

As a result, Lorenzo has now cut Rossi’s lead in the World Championship standings to just 15 points.

Rossi has not won in Italy since 2008 and is determined to claim victory this weekend in Mugello, but admits that it will be anything by easy to do so.

“Arriving at Mugello as the leader in the championship and being in a great shape is perfect. We are fast from the start of the season and this is important,” said the 36-year-old.

“I really like the Mugello circuit, the Italian Grand Prix is always a nice weekend, but also Jorge loves this track.

“Jorge and I will try to put our Yamahas on top again, but this time I hope it will be in a reverse order.

“In Le Mans I struggled a bit, but I still managed to take second. At Mugello we must not make mistakes with the set-up of the bike, starting from the free practices.

“We will work hard from the first day to make this a nice weekend … It will be a great race.”
