Rally returns to Monte Carlo

Paris - World motorsport chiefs confirmed the return of Monte Carlo to the World Rally Championship calendar in 2012 when it will open the season on January 17-22 after an absence of three years.

At an International Automobile Association (FIA) meeting in New Dehli on Wednesday, the FIA also confirmed the Rally of Catalunya as the closing event of the season on November 8-11.

The FIA has also given constructors and extra week, until December 19, to confirm their commitment to the 2012 WRC. The move is designed for Ford, whose future in the WRC is still undecided.

The 2012 World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar as confirmed by the FIA at a meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday:

January 17-22: Monte-Carlo

February 9-12: Sweden

March 6-11: Mexico

March 29-April 1: Portugal

April 27-29: Argentina

May 25-27: Greece

June 22-24: New Zealand

August 2-5: Finland

August 24-26: Germany

September 13-16: Great Britain

October 4-7: France

October 18-21: Italy

November 8-11: Spain
