Raikkonen falters in Finland

Jyvaskyla - Jari-Matti Latvala had victory in his sights in the Rally of Finland on Saturday as Ford's Finnish driver led his home event with three special stages remaining.

After the concluding day's first five specials Latvala was in command by 12.3seconds from Citroen's Sebastien Ogier with Ogier's teammate and fellow countrmyan Sebastien Loeb a further 21.4s back in third.

Loeb posted the quickest times in stages 13, 14 and 16 to climb up the standings and demote Petter Solberg, who had been lying second overnight, to fourth.

"The first two specials were very tricky, and I preferred to lose a bit of time and stay on the road," explained 2003 champion Solberg.

Ogier won stage 12 with Latvala enhancing his prospects in stage 14.

Former Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen suffered a nightmare day, slipping from eighth overall to 31st after a double puncture on stage 12.

He lost 10 minutes after only succeeding in changing one of his tyres, and a further three minutes in the following stage.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
