Madrid - Spanish motorcycling star Dani Pedrosa was arrested over holding a false boat license his lawyers announced on Monday.
The 26-year-old - a two-time 250cc world champion and also once in the 125cc category - was arrested and then later released on Saturday along with 20 others in Valencia the local justice authorities revealed.
Pedrosa - who is awaiting the decision of the judge as to whether he will be charged or not - admitted to making a mistake.
"I committed an error, in following bad advice," he said in a statement released by his lawyers.
"You can either ignore your mistakes or you can learn from them and for my part this will be a lesson for me.
"I want to apologise to my supporters and all those who have confidence in me.
"Now I just want to look forward. I am a motorcyclist, the world championship begins next weekend in Qatar, and I want to focus exclusively on this race."
Pedrosa finished fourth, despite missing several races because of a broken collarbone, in last year's MotoGp championship, winning three races to take his total in that discipline to 15 in 98 races.
