Patrick splits from husband

Los Angeles - Danica Patrick and her husband have decided to end their seven-year marriage "amicably," the IndyCar and NASCAR star announced on Tuesday.

In a message to fans on her Facebook page, the 30-year-old driver and model wrote: "I am sad to inform my fans that after seven years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage.

"This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward."

Patrick first competed in the Indianapolis 500 in 2005 when she finished fourth, the best Indy showing by a woman. She became the first woman to win a major series open-wheel race when she won in Japan in 2008.

In January this year she announced that she had decided to skip this year's Indianapolis 500 to drive in the longest race in the US stock car season, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May.
