Kyalami Grand Prix draws near

Johannesburg - Motorsport fans, who are expected to pack out the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on the occasion of the first A1GP Gauteng, South Africa on February 20-22, can look forward to a full and exciting programme of events.

On Friday morning there will be two 30-minute practice sessions between 10.45am and 12.05pm for rookie and developing nation drivers among the 20 contesting the fifth round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. In the afternoon the second official practice session will take place from 2pm to 3pm.

Saturday's programme starts with the third official practice from 11-12am. Drivers will participate in an autograph session from 1-1.45pm.

The unique four-part qualifying starts at 2.15pm and finishes at 3.10pm. Each 10-minute segment is separated by a five-minute break, with the best time from the first two segments determining the start order for Sunday morning's sprint race and the best time from the remaining segments deciding the grid for the feature race on Sunday afternoon.

The Kyalami pit lane will open at 10.30am on Sunday and close at 10.40am. The 25-minute sprint race, which features a rolling start and one mandatory pit stop, will start at 11am. The official opening ceremony starts at 1.45pm and finishes at 2.15pm. The 70-minute feature race, with a standing start and two mandatory pit stops, will start at 3pm.

The top three finishers will appear on the podium at 4.15pm.

There will be four giant screens around the circuit offering the majority of spectators more to watch than just the immediate trackside action in front of them. Spectators are requested not to bring their own food toi Kyalami as there will be numerous catering and refreshment facilities.

Spectators are reminded that while normal parking facilities will be available at Kyalami on Friday, a 'park and ride' system will be in operation on Saturday and Sunday, February 21 and 22, and will operate in conjunction with a road closure plan.

There will be no public parking within the precincts of Kyalami on the Saturday and Sunday. Instead, remote parking sites will be set up and dedicated shuttle buses will run between these sites and their respective gates on a continual basis, ensuring rapid movement of race fans from their car parks to the circuit and back again.

Saturday and Sunday ticket holders should ensure that they park in the remote parking that relates to their grandstand ticket or the general admission area. This system has been colour-coded for easier interpretation and each 'zone' will include its own parking area, grandstands and amenities, including food concession areas and toilets.

Grandstand and general admission tickets can be obtained from branches of Computicket around the country or at www.computicket.com.
