Cape Town - USA captain Davis Love III was ecstatic after his side regained the Ryder Cup for the first time since 2008 on Sunday.
The USA led by three points going into the final day, and pressed home their advantage with a dominant performance in the singles to hammer Europe 17-11.
Love's team thumped Europe, with Ryan Moore delivering the winning point in his match-up with Lee Westwood.
The US lost only four of the 12 matches on with Matt Kuchar, Jimmy Walker, J.B. Holmes and Jordan Spieth the only players to lose.
For Love, watching USA regain the Ryder Cup after eight long years was a moment to savour and one he will never forget.
“We showed that we have a heart,” he said. “We’d been kicked around for so long. When you keep losing you need to do something different. There was a shift in attitude but we all said we’re going to do whatever it takes to win this thing again.
“I’m so proud that our guys handled the pressure. The Europeans played a lot of stunning golf. I mean, Phil Mickeslon had 10 birdies today and only got a half with Sergio Garcia.
“I’m proud that they stood up and beat a great European team.”
