Gary Player burns PGA Tour pro on Twitter

Cape Town - Taking time off between sit-ups and push-ups, South Africa's greatest ever sportsman, Gary Player, has burned PGA Tour professional Daniel Berger on Twitter.

Berger took to social media on Thursday to confirm his excitement at Tiger Woods' return to competitive action after a 16-month layoff.

"Anyone else pumped to see the greatest of all time tee it up today? I know I am," Berger tweeted.

To which Player responded: "@DanielBerger59 Really? I did not know @jacknicklaus was playing this week. GP"

Berger, 23, who has a single PGA Tour victory to his name, grew up idolising Woods, who turns 41 later this month.

Meanwhile, Player, 81, has a strong argument in suggesting Jack Nicklaus, 76, is the current G.O.A.T, having won 18 Majors - to Woods' current tally of 14.

However, what isn't up for debate is that Nicklaus and Woods are the two greatest golfers of all time - and that Player is South Africa's greatest ever sportsman or woman.

Berger and Player went on to agree that the Golden Bear and Woods are indeed the best of their respective generations.

"@garyplayer I've been a TW fan since I was a boy that's probably why I think he's the G.O.A.T.", Berger replied.

"@DanielBerger59 Fully understand. Not many are bigger @TigerWoods fans than me. Perhaps we can agree they are both the best of their eras?", Player responded.

"@garyplayer Absolutely!", Berger concurred.
