Weather interferes in Sicily

Rome - Raphael Jacquelin had his lead cut to one stroke as bad weather on Sunday ensured that there would be a Monday finish at the Sicilian Open.

Frenchman Jacquelin and his playing partner, England's Anthony Wall, were among those whose rounds were delayed by the dangerous weather conditions.

Play was halted for two and a half hours before the leading pair even made it onto the course.

Overnight leader Jacquelin got his round under way and moved to 11 under par heading into Monday's deciding final holes.

Wall claimed a birdie at the first to draw level with Jacquelin on nine under, but the Frenchman followed suit at the second to re-establish his one-stroke lead.

And he pushed that to two strokes with another birdie on the par-four fifth, protecting his advantage with a par on the sixth.

Jacquelin and Wall continued to trade blows until the final hole of the day -- the 12th -- when the Frenchman missed a six-foot putt to concede a bogey, while Wall closed to within a shot at 10-under overall as he registered a birdie.

"It was a little bit frustrating to bogey the 12th before we finished there but it was actually a good bogey so I can't have too many complaints," Jacquelin told www.europeantour.com.

"I am two-under for the round and have a one-shot lead so we will come back and do it all again in the morning.

"I played well though and holed more putts today, even though it was difficult to get the pace of the greens because of the weather."

Spaniard Jose Manuel Lara was on four under for his final round after a hat-trick of birdies from the fifth hole, but has just three holes left to play on Monday to claw back two shots on the leader.
