Visa troubles for Manassero

Valencia - Matteo Manassero's place at the HSBC Champions Tournament in Shanghai next week has been put in jeopardy by the difficulties involved in getting a visa to visit China at short notice.

The 17-year-old Italian qualified on Sunday to play in Shanghai when he became the youngest winner in European Tour history at the Castello Masters in Spain.

So, rather than travel as scheduled on Monday from Valencia to Valderrama to play in Thursday's Andalucia Masters, Manassero flew back to Italy to try to obtain a visa for the November 4-7 tournament.

But his manager Gorga Guillen said: "To get his visa, first Matteo needs a letter of invitation from the Chinese government's sports ministry and getting that is not going to be easy at such short notice."

Manassero could potentially miss out on both tournaments as Guillen said he could give no guarantee the Italian would be able to fly back to Spain to play this week or complete the necessary paperwork in time to play in China.
