Grace SA's best at US Open

Cape Town - Branden Grace was South Africa’s best performing golfer at this past weekend’s US Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Grace shot a one over par 71 on Sunday to finish with an even par score of 280 for the tournament.

He finished tied for fifth spot and was only four shots behind eventual champion Dustin Johnson of America, who claimed his first major title.

Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel were the other South Africans who made the cut, with both finishing tied for 23rd spot with seven over par 287s.

The other South Africans taking part in the event - Ernie Els (+10), Retief Goosen (+10), Jaco van Zyl (+13) and Thomas Aiken (+13) - all failed to make the cut for the final two rounds.
