Grace banks R5.6m for US Open efforts

Cape Town - Branden Grace was South Africa's top performer at the 116th US Open at Oakmont Country Club - and banked a cool $374 395 (R5.6 million) for his efforts.

Grace finished in a tie for fifth place on Sunday, four shots behind winner, American Dustin Johnson.

Grace also moved up one spot to 11th in the latest world rankings.

Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel were the only other South Africans who made the cut, with both finishing tied for 23rd spot on seven-over par.

They were rewarded with $82 890 (R1.25m) for their four days work.

The other South Africans taking part in the event - Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Jaco van Zyl and Thomas Aiken - all failed to make the cut.
