Tiger to 'make announcement'

Los Angeles - Injured 14-time Major champion, Tiger Woods, who announced earlier this week that he was pulling out of the British Open, is set to make an announcement on the Golf Channel on Monday.

The Golf Channel reported on its Twitter account on Sunday night that it would be broadcasting a "special announcement concerning Tiger Woods" on Monday morning.

NBC sports reported on Sunday night that "Woods will sit down with (anchor) Kelly Tilghman" to make the announcement. Neither the Golf Channel or NBC provided any details about the announcement.

There is speculation in golfing circles that Woods may announce he is going to miss more time while he recovers from injuries and knee surgery.

Woods, who easily holds the record for the most consecutive weeks atop the world golf rankings, has expressed confidence that he would regain his form. But he has said that he would not rush back too quickly from injury this time.

"In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have competed at The Players, but it's a big event, and I wanted to be there to support the tour," Woods said. "I've got to learn from what I did there and do it right this time and not come back until I'm ready.

"I think my best years are still ahead of me, and I'm very confident and optimistic about the future."
