Storm delays WGC play

Doral - A thunderstorm delayed the WGC-Cadillac Championship on Thursday, arriving just minutes before Tiger Woods was due to tee off.

With dark clouds surrounding the Blue Monster course and lightning forecast, organisers suspended play after just a handful of early starters had completed a hole.

The delay began at 18:45 SA time as heavy rain and strong winds pounded the course with several palm trees being ripped out of the ground.

Organisers said they hoped play will resume at 21:30 SA time.
