Schwartzel hungry for more

Wentworth - South Africa's Charl Schwartzel has admitted last month's success in the US Masters has not satisfied his appetite for major championship titles.

The 26-year-old finished with four straight birdies to win in dramatic style and recently rose to No 7 in the world rankings - his highest ever placing and the first time he has been above Tiger Woods.

The winner's Green Jacket has been Schwartzel's constant companion since his win and he was planning to wear it for the European Tour's annual dinner on Tuesday night.

But Schwartzel admits he is hungry for more and has next month's US Open at Congressional in his sights and the world No 1 ranking.

Schwartzel, at Wentworth to prepare for the PGA Championship, said: "I would love to be number one and I feel I can be number one in the world.

"The rankings are quite volatile right now and there is so much to grab this week. You go and win and all of a sudden you jump forward three and then number one is only two spots away.

"I have always thought the US Open would be one I could win. I play well around tough courses, ones where you have to work hard to make par so I am looking forward to it. I you were to ask me one, I would say the US Open would be the one where I could contend."

Fellow South African Louis Oosthuizen holds the British Open title after his win at St Andrews last summer and Schwartzel admits his compatriots success and the rivalry between the two is spurring them both on.

He added: "It was good to see him win and that inspired me. Now that I have won one we have both got a little silent smile that we have won that first major.

"Both of us want to keep going, so we have got that rivalry - it never stops. If you haven't won a major people say 'when are you going to win a major?' And you win one and they say 'when are you going to win the next one?'

"And you get to the top ten in the world and they want to know when you are going to be world number one - it never stops. It is the same here. We have both won one let's see if we can't get another one."
