Ryder Cup play to resume

Newport - Play at the 38th Ryder Cup will resume later Friday after an improvement in weather conditions, officials said.

After being washed out for most of Friday's first day, the opening fourballs will get back under way at 18:00 SA time.

Matches were halted with Europe leading in three of the four morning fourballs after torrential rain lashed Celtic Manor.

"I had the greenkeeping staff out there and they said yes we can go ahead," course referee John Paramor said.

Paramor said another two hours of play may be possible.

"It is forecast to turn brighter and my feeling is that we could play until 19:45 SA time or maybe eight," he said.
