Rain delays Mandela Champs

Durban - Overnight rain and intermittent morning drizzle meant the start of the first round of the inaugural Nelson Mandela Championship was delayed in Durban on Thursday.

The wet weather left certain areas of the Royal Durban Golf Club unplayable and, with little sunshine forecast for day one, doubts remained whether the full 72 holes would be possible in what was the opening event of the new European Tour season.

After the initial announcement, a second inspection was held at 09:00, with no positive outcome. The next notice was due at 11:00.

Rain on Wednesday had already led to the cancellation of the Pro-Am.
