San Diego - Phil Mickelson says no one in golf can fill the void of Tiger Woods and the sport needs its No. 1 player to return.
Mickelson outplayed Woods in the last two tournaments they played at the end of last year, and is playing some of the best golf of his career.
He makes his 2010 debut this week in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, which will be missing Woods for the second straight year as he copes with the fallout from extramarital affairs.
Mickelson says he's had limited communication with Woods' family over the last two months.
He says while no one can replace Woods, golf still has a lot to offer and he hopes to get into contention quickly to "provide some excitement of my own."
