Cape Town - Golf star Rory McIlroy lost his prized clubs yesterday - days after he suffered a major meltdown at the US Masters, reports The Sun.
The clubs, worth an estimated £3 000, disappeared during a 25-hour air trip.
The ace, from Holywood, Northern Ireland, had flown from the US to Kuala Lumpur for the Malaysian Open. He was left hoping the bespoke Titleist clubs would turn up in time for him to play on Thursday.
It came after McIlroy, 21, missed out on glory in the Masters. He blew a four-shot lead in the final round on Sunday as South African Charl Schwartzel, 26, claimed victory.
Rory said of his missing clubs: "It's one of those things - you can't help it.
"Your bags are going to get lost sometimes. Hopefully they will still turn up."
He shared the marathon plane journey with Schwartzel. Rory said: "I've known Charl a long time and I'm happy for him, genuinely."
