Mbalula congratulates Grace

Johannesburg - Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula congratulated golfer Branden Grace on Monday for winning his fourth European Tour event this year.

"The achievement is nothing short of amazing and mind-blowing. Brandon has once again proven to the world our prowess as a top golfing nation," Mbalula said.

"He joins the likes of golfing greats, such as Seve Ballesteros, Ernie Els, Sir Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods, and Ian Woosnam as players who have won four or more official events in the same European season."

Grace is the youngest South African player, at 24, to win four times in a single season - beating the mark of Ernie Els, who was 32 when he achieved the same accolade.

Having graduated from the 2011 European Tour Qualifying School, Grace also became the first graduate to win four times in the year immediately after graduation.

"This is what heroes are made of and, as South Africans, we must celebrate this rare and outstanding achievement by the amazing Brandon Grace," Mbalula said.

"We salute him for flying our flag high and know that many more victories will come from Branden, which will include winning majors."
