Nike air new Tiger advert

Augusta - Apparel brand Nike aired a television advert on Wednesday featuring Tiger Woods, the first of its kind since revelations of a string of extra-marital affairs had caused some sponsors to distance themselves from golfer.

Woods took nearly five months off from golf after the scandal came to light last year, but is making a highly-anticipated return on Thursday at the Masters in Augusta.

The advert - which was filmed several weeks ago at the Isleworth Country Club near Woods's Florida home - was scheduled to run on Wednesday and Thursday in the US on the Golf Channel and ESPN.

"We support Tiger and his family. As he returns to competitive golf, the ad addresses his time away from the game using the powerful words of his father," said Nike spokesperson Derek Kent.

Accenture, AT&T and PepsiCo's Gatorade all dumped Woods as a sponsor.

The golfer said at a Monday news conference that he understood their decision but hoped he would be profitable for those that stood by him.
