Charl cashes in at Augusta

Cape Town - South Africa's Charl Schwartzel has banked a cool $1.44m (R9.6m) for winning the Masters at Augusta National on Sunday.

Schwartzel, who finished birdie, birdie, birdie, birdie to win his maiden Major and join Gary Player (1961, 1974, 1978) and Trevor Immelman (2008) as South African wearers of the coveted Green Jacket.

Immelman, who finished in a tie for 15th, earned $128 000 (R850 000) for his efforts, while Ernie Els had to be content with $24 000 (R160 000) for his tie for 47th spot.

Rory Sabbatini, Louis Oosthuizen, Tim Clark and Retief Goosen all missed the cut and went home empty-handed.
