CSA congratulates Schwartzel

Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Monday extended its warmest congratulations to Charl Schwartzel on his magnificent performance in winning the US Masters Golf Tournament at Augusta, Georgia, on Sunday.

"It was a magnificent performance of which all South Africans are rightly proud," commented CSA CEO Gerald Majola.

"The manner in which he came down the home straight, finishing with four birdies in a row on one of the game’s most testing lay-outs, demonstrated Charl’s pedigree as a true champion. That it should happen 50 years to the day when Gary Player became the first non-American to win the title in 1961 made it an even more special occasion.

"Charl didn’t just play great golf; he also displayed impeccable manners and sportsmanship under extreme pressure.

"It is greatly to South African golf’s credit that three of our young men have now won Golf Majors in the space of the last three years following Trevor Immelman’s victory in the Masters in 2008 and Louis Oosthuizen’s triumph in The Open at St. Andrew’s last year," concluded Majola.
