Love next US Ryder Cup skip

2011-01-17 22:03

Honolulu - Former vice-captain Davis Love III is set to be named the next captain of the United States Ryder Cup team.

Two officials involved in the selection process confirmed that Love will be the captain in 2012.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because the official announcement is not due until Thursday at Medinah, site of the next Ryder Cup.

Jose Maria Olazabal is widely expected on Tuesday to be appointed Europe's captain for the 2012 competition.

Love played on six U.S. teams, and he faced Olazabal in his first Ryder Cup match in 1993 at The Belfry. Love and Tom Kite defeated Olazabal and Seve Ballesteros in that opening session, although Olazabal's team won the other four times they played.

Love was a vice captain when Europe won last October in Wales.
