Injury rules Tiger out

Florida - Tiger Woods withdrew from the Players Championship on Thursday due to injury after slipping to six-over par over the opening nine holes.

The 14-times major winner came into the tournament after suffering knee and Achilles tendon injuries and said he had hurt himself on the first tee shot.

After bogeying the first hole, Woods found water twice at the par-four fourth where he ended with a triple bogey.

Further bogeys came on the fifth and ninth holes for the former world No 1.

Woods missed last week's tournament at Quail Hollow due to injury and he only played his first nine holes of golf since last month's Masters on Tuesday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
