New York - Former Masters champion Trevor Immelman of South Africa has withdrawn from US Open golf championship because of tendinitis in his left wrist and elbow, the US Golf Association said Sunday.

Immelman, the 2008 Masters winner, became the second player from the top 50 in the world rankings to withdraw from the tournament, the second major championship of the season which tees off on Thursday at Bethpage Black.

Sweden's Robert Karlsson withdrew last week because of an eye infection.

Immelman was replaced by Clinton Jensen, the first alternate from sectional qualifying in Florida.

Earlier this weekend, American Dudley Hart withdrew and was replaced by amateur Scott Lewis.
