Mallorca - Sweden's Peter Hanson shrugged off a one-shot penalty to win the Mallorca Open on Sunday, beating Spain's Alejandro Canizares in a play-off.

It was Hanson's third European Tour title, but it came in controversial circumstances after he was penalised for a double hit after chipping at the 12th hole.

He was two behind with four to play, but responded well to birdie the 15th and 17th holes to finish level with Canizares who bogeyed the first extra hole.

Hanson and Canizares had both shot 66 to finish on six under par after four rounds, four clear of South Africa's James Kingston.
