Goosen pulls out of Wentworth

London - Retief Goosen has pulled out of this week's PGA Championship at Wentworth having failed to recover sufficiently from a broken toe which has prevented him playing since the US Masters.

Goosen's South African compatriot Richard Sterne, Jose Maria Olazabal and Michael Campbell will also miss the European tour's flagship event, which tees off on Thursday.

Olazabal is unable to play following a flare-up of his problems with rheumatism while New Zealand's Campbell is taking a break from competitive golf following a slump in form.

Sergio Garcia will be the only leading European absent from the event, which will see 17-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero make his second start as a professional.
