Sandwich - Retief Goosen has withdrawn from the British Open after injuring his back.

The two-time US Open champion from South Africa shot a 6-over 76 in the first round at Royal St. George's but pulled out of the tournament before beginning his second round, scheduled to start at 14:32 on Friday.

The 21st-ranked Goosen finished sixth at last year's British Open at St. Andrews and has had two fifth-place showings.

Has anyone seen a more pathetic TV coverage of a Major? I had to wait from 5,55pm to 6,35pm for a leaderboard to be shown on the TV and find out how many shots the golfers being shown were behind the leader and who was there or therabouts - and we have to pay for this trash?

I am watching this in Athens, and they comment every 3 - 4 minutes and we have no idea what each player's present score is or what hole they are on. Really like watching a silent movie and the camera has to "hunt" to find where the ball landed, even when it is on the green! They screen all over the place and eventually find it. To a certain extent it is amusing as I am watching live scoring on my IPad. Forget about a leader board!
