Garcia heading to Fancourt

George - Sergio Garcia will join Retief Goosen, American Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin, Grand Slam champion Gary Player and a host of professional golfers, celebrities and businessmen in the 11th Gary Player Invitational, presented by Coca-Cola, at Fancourt later this month.

Garcia, winner of 19 tournaments and a veteran of five Ryder Cups as a player, has confirmed his participation in one of golf’s premier charity tournaments and expressed his delight at making his debut in this event from 18-21 November.

“I am very excited about playing in my first Gary Player Invitational and returning to South Africa,” said Garcia.

“Gary Player has had such an influence on the careers of so many professional golfers, myself included. His mental strength has been something I have always admired, as well as the unselfish way he has always given of his time. It is an honour for me to be able to play my own part in helping him raise funds for charity and supporting the work he does worldwide.”

The Gary Player Invitational South Africa is the fourth tournament on a series that has travelled to Europe, America and China in a bid to raise funds for underprivileged children.

The presence of Garcia, Pavin, Goosen as well as Ladies European Tour star Lee-Anne Pace, senior tour champions Mark McNulty, John Cook, John Bland and Tony Johnstone, sports celebrities Lucas Radebe, Dwight Yorke, Zinzan Brooke and Brian Lara, and top businessmen Dr Hasso Plattner and Alex Maditsi to name a few makes this one of the strongest fields ever assembled for this tournament.

“I’m so pleased that some of the biggest stars in world golf have agreed to give of their time to help us raise funds for charity,” said Player. “Sergio is such an exciting player and to have him make his debut here will make this an even more memorable event."
