Scottsdale - Play has finally begun on Thursday in near-freezing conditions at the 6.1-million-dollar US PGA Phoenix Open, after a four-hour delay due to severe frost on the TPC Scottsdale course.
An arctic air blast linked to a major storm that caused heavy snow and frigid conditions over most of the United States even impacted the Arizona desert, leaving turf so frozen that Wednesday's pro-am was called off to avoid course damage.
Another frost delay is expected Friday morning, which, combined with Thursday's late start, could push the completion of the second round into the weekend.
