Hong Kong - A foot injury has forced Colin Montgomerie to withdraw from the $2 million UBS Hong Kong Open after the first round, where he shot a four-over-par 74, the European Tour said on Friday.
The 49-year-old Scot has won a record eight European Tour Order of Merit titles, but famously failed to lift a Major trophy. He triumphed at the Hong Kong Open, co-sanctioned between the Asian Tour and European Tour, in 2005.
He had a wretched time on Thursday in the first round at Hong Kong Golf Club, shooting seven bogeys against three birdies. He was 10 shots off the leader.
The extent of the foot injury was not immediately known, however Montgomerie walked off the course unaided after his disappointing round.
