Gary Player pays tribute to Vincent Tshabalala

2017-06-06 13:15

Cape Town - Golfing legend Gary Player has paid tribute to former South African professional golfer, Vincent Tshabalala, who died at the weekend.

Tshabalala, who was 75 at the time of his passing, was barred from the South African Tour (now called the Sunshine Tour) for several years due to apartheid.

Tshabalala instead played on the European Tour and rose to fame after winning the 1976 French Open.

Player, who won nine golf majors, took to Twitter to share his condolences to his compatriot.

Tshabalala also excelled in the European Seniors Tour and won two events on the South African Tour after the country lifted its racial restrictions.

His best result in a major was a tie for 56th in the 1977 Open Championship.
