Monza - Sweden's Jens Fahrbring and Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard shared the lead at the halfway point of the Italian Open on Friday with four players tied for second and two shots back.
Fahrbring, 31, is chasing his maiden European Tour victory and moved into contention with an eight under par 64 that included nine birdies, while 24-year-old Bjerregaard, also seeking his first Tour title, carded a 65 that began with an eagle at the first.
On another day of low scoring at the par-72 Gold Club Milano, overnight leader Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium struggled early with three bogeys over 10 holes before four birdies down the stretch left him as part of the quartet two shots adrift.
Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti, Frenchman Romain Wattel and Pedro Oriol of Spain are the other three players on 11 under and well in contention.
Germany's former US Open and PGA Championship winner Martin Kaymer shot a sparkling 66 that included five birdies and an eagle at the par-5 14th and lies a further shot back alongside American David Lipsky and Swede Rikard Karlberg.
"I didn't play as good as yesterday to be honest," said Kaymer.
"I didn't hit as many fairways as yesterday and therefore I feel like I didn't have as many chances as well but I shot a better score. It was a strange one.
"I felt a little bit tired, I didn't sleep very well last night, therefore (it is) even better if you make a few birdies at the beginning of the round to get the round going, I made a very nice eagle.
"I think I shot five under on the par fives so that helps," added the 30-year-old from Dusseldorf.
Veteran Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez also climbed the leaderboard as he pushed himself into a share for 12th on nine under, four strokes back, with Italy's highest ranked player Andrea Perrino.
