Ernie long-shot at Masters

Garrin Lambley

Cape Town - Despite two victories on the trot, Ernie Els is a long-shot to win the Masters at Augusta according to bookmakers.

Els wrapped up victory at the rain-delayed Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill on Monday to record his second consecutive victory on the PGA Tour after lifting the trophy at the WGC-CA Championship at Doral earlier in the month.

Leading SA bookies, GreatOdds, have the three-time Major winner on offer at a rather attractive looking 12/1 to add the Masters to his two US Open and one British Open titles.

Leading the way odds-wise is world No 1 Tiger Woods who will make his return to competitive golf at Augusta following a four-month layoff.

Woods is available at 9/2, generous odds for the four-time Masters champion, giving a clear indication that uncertainly exists over his form.

Phil Mickelson, who hasn't shown any form to speak of in 2010, is the second favourite at 9/1.

With the Augusta National layout historically favouring long hitters, Retief Goosen and Paul Casey (both 25/1) look like shrewd bets.
