Donald into Match Play final

Marana - A brilliant Luke Donald has made short work of his opponents en route to the final at the World Golf Championships Accenture Match Play Championship.

The quiet Englishman has never trailed in any of his five matches, and he was at his best on Saturday as he put the sword to two foes.

After dusting off American Ryan Moore 5 and 4 in a morning quarter-final at Dove Mountain, the overall ninth seed was just as impressive in his afternoon semi-final against another American, Matt Kuchar.

Six birdies in 13 holes paved the way to a 6 and 5 victory, leaving Kuchar powerless to do anything about the juggernaut.

"I've been tough to beat this week and hopefully that can continue tomorrow," Donald said.

"I've been stringing together a lot of good rounds, making birdies and not too many mistakes.

"You obviously don't want to lose in any of the rounds but I would be disappointed to make it this far and then lose the final."

Kuchar was philosophical in defeat.

"Had I got somebody else on today's round, I may have still been able to come out with a win, but you face Luke Donald on a day he's really hot, you pack your bags early," he said.

Donald, who is ranked ninth in the world, will rise to third if he lifts the trophy on Sunday.

He will play Germany's Martin Kaymer, who edged American Bubba Watson 1-up on the other semi-final.

Donald began his barnstorming run with a thumping victory over Charlie Hoffman in Wednesday's first round, before disposing of Italians Edoardo Molinari and then Matteo Manassero in the next two rounds.

He has lost only 13 holes in his five matches.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
