Da Silva holds nerve to win

Durban - Adilson da Silva held his nerve during persistent coastal showers and a threatening thunderstorm to win his second title of 2010 at the Suncoast Classic in Durban on Sunday.

Da Silva shot a 63 on a tough Durban Country Club layout on Saturday and entered Sunday's round with a two stroke lead.

He proceeded to dissect the course with six birdies and no blemishes to end on 20-under par for the three rounds.

Round one leader Jean Hugo finished second on 16-under par after a 68, with Jacques Blaauw a stroke back in third place and Asian Tour campaigner Keith Horne another stroke behind in fourth.

Da Silva confessed to battling internal demons throughout the round and managing to relax only after finishing the 17th hole.

"Today was such a hard day for me," he said.

"Leading on the last day is always hard to keep it together, but I really hung in there and thought about each shot, and when I made a par on 17, I just felt comfortable and I told myself that has got to be it."

Commenting on his recent form, Da Silva said he had worked hard on his swing with his coach John Dickson and on his mental side with Professor David Beattie.

"I've also be spending a lot of time on my putting, because that was what's been letting me down over the last couple of months, but since then I have been holing what I have previously been missing, so that has also helped me a lot."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
