Celebs swing for Sunflower Fund

Cape Town - Award-winning lifestyle and golf destination, Pearl Valley Golf Estates, has partnered with The Sunflower Fund, hosting a charitable hole-in-one at the inaugural Pearl Valley Annual Celebrity Golf Day on September 27, 2013.

With proceeds going to The Sunflower Fund, the Pearl Valley Annual Celebrity Golf Day will consist of a full field of 128 golfers in 32 fourballs, each including one celebrity ambassador from either Media, Entertainment, Sport or Corporate circles.

The celebrity ambassadors include Ryan O'Connor, Benito Vergotine, Dr Michael Mol, Breyton Paulse, Corne Krige, Ryk Neethling, Reuben Riffel, Barry Richards, Paul Adams, Brian McMillan, Jeremy Harris, Jean Smyth and Matthew Pearce, among others.

The Sunflower Fund actively raises funds to increase bone marrow stem cell donors in South Africa, and support those in need of a bone marrow transplant due to leukaemia, and other life-threatening blood disorders. The cause holds a special significance for Pearl Valley, as the Estate’s General Manager, Gawie Marx, is himself a leukaemia survivor. In remission for 15 years after his bone marrow transplant, Marx believes that the Pearl Valley Annual Celebrity Golf Day is a cause worthy of widespread support.

“The Sunflower Fund stands for a vital cause, and we at Pearl Valley believe that this event will garner great support for the wonderful work that they do. Having survived leukaemia and a transplant, I know the importance of this charity on a personal level. I hope that the public will come out to support this amazing event, and have a great deal of fun whilst doing so,” says Marx.

“We are inviting corporate teams as well as groups and individuals to tee off to help make a difference, while having a chance to compete with local celebrities and sports ambassadors on the golf course,” adds Marx.
