Cape Town - The Proteas are set for another must-win clash when they face India in the penultimate Cricket South Africa (CSA) Women’s T20 at SuperSport Park on Wednesday.
India lead the five-match series 2-1 with South Africa poised to level the competition after their five-wicket victory at the Wanderers on Sunday.
Chloe Tryon, who continued her big-hitting form was once again a key contributor to the team’s success, hitting 34 runs in 15 balls to help edge the visitors. She admits that power hitting is one of her favourite parts of her training regimen and particularly enjoys absorbing pressure situations.
“I’ve been preparing really well,” she said. “I’ve been working really hard on the batting and just being really positive when I go out there. I like being under pressure when I go and bat and I enjoy batting when the team is under pressure, it forces me to be calm and do what I do best.”
She is still looking to convert her 30s and 40s to a half-century and beyond, but for now, Tryon is satisfied with having contributed to the team’s victory in a couple of occasions during this tour. She believes that they are ready to put on a performance similar if not better than that of Sunday’s match when they go up against the visitors in Centurion tomorrow.
“I think we play our best cricket when we just go out there and express ourselves and just do the basics right,” Tryon continued. “You can’t underestimate the importance of executing those basics. We gel really well as a team and in the previous match, we put on a really good performance that showed just how good we are. I think we just need to use that momentum to push us forward in the next match.”
South Africa’s execution of the three disciplines of the game; batting, bowling and fielding were much improved from previous encounters against India, which Tryon was pleased to see. She hopes that the last match is the catalyst that brings about a permanent change in the team’s consistency issues.
“Everything just fell into place in the last match. Shabnim (Ismail) got her first fifer, I batted well, the fielding was really good, it was really good to see. I hope that we can take this forward and continue upping our levels with each game we play because we can’t go backwards from here.”
