Proteas batsman signs Kolpak deal with Kent

Cape Town - Former Proteas batsman Heino Kuhn has signed for English country Kent, subject to obtaining a visa and registration.

The former Test and T20 international will join the club on a Kolpak registration and will be available in all formats.

The 33-year-old has scored almost 10 000 first-class runs at an average of 43.99 with 23 centuries and 46 fifties to his name.

The right-handed batsman has won a domestic one-day and four-day titles for Northerns as well as three successive domestic T20 titles with reigning champions Titans.

In the one-day format, Kuhn has scored 3 795 runs at an average of 30.6 and has amassed 1 403 T20 runs at an average of 25.

He has made four Test appearances for the Proteas and played seven times for South Africa.

He went on to score 200 not out for South Africa 'A' against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl last summer.

"I'm delighted to get the opportunity to play county cricket and I’m looking forward to joining the Kent squad," said Kuhn.

"I want to contribute positively to the team and bring my experience from winning trophies in South Africa."

"We're delighted to welcome a player of Heino's quality and experience to the club," said director of cricket Paul Downton.

"We believe Heino can complement our talented batsmen across the three formats and serve as a mentor to those coming through the ranks."

Players who sign Kolpak deals in England are unavailable for South Africa in international cricket.
