NZ debutants shine in Christchurch

Christchurch - Day two of the first Test between New Zealand and Pakistan belonged firmly to the hosts, as debutants Colin de Grandhomme and Jeet Raval impressed.

Day one day been lost to rain, so day two was a fresh start, as the Kiwis won the toss at the Hagley Oval and opted to field, with great results.

De Grandhomme, who played for Zimbabwe till under 19 level, removed four of the top six Pakistan batsmen, including Azhar Ali as his maiden wicket.

Misbah-ul-Haq made the top score for the visitors, a meagre 31, as Pakistan were removed inside 56 overs, and left the hosts with a session to face.

Bowling continued to dominate, and the Black Caps were in Raval's debt, as both Tom Latham and Kane Williamson were out for single figures.

Ross Taylor's poor form continued as he could only make 11, leaving Raval and Henry Nicholls to rescue the knock before stumps. Nicholls was on 29 at the close.
