Kumble backs India for historic win in SA

Cape Town - Former Indian spinner Anil Kumble believes India will "create history" when they take on the Proteas in their upcoming tour to South Africa.

Kumble, who resigned as India's head coach in June earlier this year, was confident that the world No 1 Test team will complete a historic victory over the Proteas in their own backyard.

India have never won a Test series in South Africa having lost five times to the Proteas and one drawn.

"I'm confident that the team which we have will certainly go on to create history in South Africa and then beyond. That's the confidence I have," Kumble was quoted as saying by India Today.

"I'm sure the team under Virat (Kohli) certainly has the capabilities to achieve that and continue all the good work they have been doing."

Kumble took 619 wickets in 132 Tests for India and is only the second bowler in cricket history after England's Jim Laker to have taken all 10 in a Test innings.

India will face South Africa in three Tests, starting in Cape Town on January 5.
