Dubai - Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne Saturday completed 3,000 Test runs during his marathon knock of 196 in the second and final Test against Pakistan in Dubai on Saturday.
The 29-year-old left-hander reached the milestone when on 141 he smashed a boundary off pacer Mohammad Amir during second day's play.
He becomes the 12th Sri Lankan to score 3,000 or more runs, in a 44-Test career, finally bowled off an inside edge off paceman Wahab Riaz.
Karunaratne batted for nine hours and seven minutes, facing 405 balls off which he cracked 19 boundaries and a six.
Kumar Sangakkara leads the table of highest Test run getters for Sri Lanka, amassing 12,400 runs in 134 Tests while his long time partner Mahela Jayawardene has 11,814 runs in 149 matches.
Karunaratne made his debut against New Zealand at Galle in 2012 and his previous best Test score was also at the same venue, scoring 186 versus against the West Indies in 2015.
