India court orders BCCI to implement clean-up panel's views

New Delhi - India's Supreme Court has ordered the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to withhold funding from state cricket bodies until they implement recommendations of a court-appointed committee to clean up the administration of the sport.

A three-man committee headed by Justin Rajendra Lodha was formed in the wake of a spot-fixing scam and alleged conflicts of interest.

The court ruled on Friday that state associations must submit affidavits committing to compliance with the Lodha recommendations in order to receive financial distributions from the BCCI.

The Supreme Court also ordered the BCCI to appoint an independent auditor to scrutinise its accounts and fix financial limits for contracts.

All high-value contracts would have to be cleared by auditors, the court ruled.

The next major contract will be the broadcasting rights for the India Premier League, expected next week.

BCCI office bearers have also been ordered to file compliance reports to the Supreme Court within two weeks.
