CSA pays tribute to Danny Becker

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) has expressed its condolences after the passing of former provincial fast bowler and international umpire, Danny Becker.

Becker passed away at the age of 69 on Thursday, having been in poor health for some time.

Danzel Frederick Becker represented both North Eastern Transvaal and Transvaal under the aegis of the South African Cricket Association (SACA) from 1968 to 1975, taking 112 wickets in 35 matches at an average of 23.10. He had four five-wicket hauls including a best return of 6/23.

A full two metres in height, he troubled batsmen with his ability to generate fearsome bounce at a good pace.

After his playing career ended he became one of the country’s leading umpires and stood in 16 One-Day International matches between 1997 and 2001.

“On behalf of the CSA family I extend our deepest condolences to his family, his friends and his cricketing colleagues,” commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.
